Multi Camera Theory

For this assignment I will be looking at two completely different multi camera shows. One of these shows is Mrs Browns Boys. This show is recorded for the BBC and shown on BBC1. It is filmed at the BBC Pacific Quay studios in Glasgow Scotland. It is filmed inform of a live studio audience which is seen at the beginning and end of the show. It is made up of 3 different sets which include the kitchen, living room and the pub which at least have 2 – 3 cameras on each set so that they can capture the show from all different angles. With the nature of the show mistakes are made but kept in to show that it has been filmed on a live set and to make the show have more laughs.

In the beginning of the show Agnes Brown always is zoomed in on by a camera behind the audience then as it gets up close it will switch to a closer camera that it on the set so it can be closer. At the beginning of the show she always does a monologue where she is placed in the center of the shot to show who the main character is that is talking.

When the show is being filmed there will always be a camera on each actor in the room if they are far apart for when they are having a conversation they are able to change between shots to show who is talking. These shots will always have the actor in the center of the frame just to show who the main character in these scene is.

At the end of the show all the cameras zoom out to show the set in the background and all the actors taking a bow across the sets to show that it is filmed on a live studio set.
This is an example of a full Mrs Browns boys episode.

I am using this show to compare with my other multi camera because of the way the other one is shot. My second multi camera shoot is BBC Radio 1’s live lounge which has only recently been made in to a multi camera show and therefor has its own slot on the BBC iPlayer. The reason I am using this show is to show how different it is set up and shot.

The live lounge is shot in one room with around 5 or more cameras to capture all angle of the act that is playing. I believe this is a very different type of multi camera shoot as instead of just having the camera on the act it will have arty shots that look very good visually where it will show close ups of them playing the instruments.

This is not a show where they are able to do re-take of shots and editing them together the live lounge will do one take and editing it together and put it on their Youtube and iPlayer page.
Here are some examples of what the radio 1's live lounge multi camera shoots are like. As you can see they have a really chilled out vibe to them which is one thing i personally like about them.

For my multi camera shoot we created a music show. In the show I tried to get radio type feel to it so when you are watching it, you are getting close ups of the instruments.

Personally I believe that my multi camera shoot and the live lounge have more of a personal feel to it where all that you can see is the band its self and only the band whereas on Mrs Browns Boys you can see the audience.
